Kodyma Festivals 18-23 June

For the first time this year in June two international festivals in Kodyma will be held simultaneously: ecological and ethnographic. This is a joint project of the Odessa Tourism Association "Big Odessa" and Kodyma district state administration.

Both festivals will be held a few days.

1. International Forum of conscious country life

Enthusiasts and environmentalists from all over Ukraine will gather in Ivashkov, the village in the north of Odessa region on border with Vinnytsia, for the first International Forum of conscious country life. Counterparts from Russia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Poland, Western Europe will join them.

In a picturesque location on the bank of the river, surrounded by pristine nature, they will teach and learn how to build an environmentally friendly house made of clay and straw, install solar collectors for water heating and panels on the solar cells, cultivating organic beds for growing food without chemistry. Inventors will introduce the latest innovations in electromobile constructing to the guests. Everyone will be able to take a master class of making the ecologically clean pottery. Internationally renowned environmental gurus will tell you how to create an organic farm, eco-village, a vegetarian restaurant, health food store, and energy-efficient startup.

Over 50 out-of-town projects will be presented during this forum and the authors will share their achievements and experiences, reveal secrets of harmonious life in the countryside.

Here is the list of things that you will be able to do by yourselves :

- Build a real eco-house out of straw and clay in 5 days;

-plant your first organic fruit and vegetables and cook vegetarian pizza in eko-stove;

- construct your first solar collector;

-collect your own herbal tea and honey from the hive;

- Go hiking in the Podolsk canyons and see the real Podolsk wedding.

During five days there will work two sections.

The first section is a rural fair. There will be presented the best projects of rural life organization, as well as products and services of eco-business representatives. Everyone will be able to see, touch and buy on the spot, if desired, their products. There will be everything: from combs made of birch bark and products that were cultivated by eco-settlers using environment saving technologies to eco-homes and eco-festivals. Besides for those of you who has been dreaming to move to the countryside for a long time, there is a great opportunity to get acquainted with different eco-communities, and, quite possibly, with your future neighbors!

The second section of forum is a business program with 2 working groups: the expert one and eco-business group.

More than 30 experts all over the world will share their knowledge and experience on how to:

- increase the attractiveness of your settlements for new residents;

- attract investment and funding for your business projects and build it the most efficiently;

- receive state subsidies;

- improve the microclimate inside the settlements;

- improve the sustainability and efficiency of the economy by application of the innovations, leading technology and equipment;

-create a successful eco-business.

The organizers plan to attract more than 5000 visitors, 60% of them are the residents of cities, interested in country life, and about 40% -professionals of the market: producers of organic food and eco-material, the teachers of alternative schools, eco-trainers, consultants of separate waste products collection, etc.

All guests will be treated to dishes made of organic eco-products around the campfire with music every evening.

This celebration of life in harmony with nature will last 5 days.

2. Ethnographic Festival

In Kodyma (just a kilometer from Ivashkov) on the square next to the house of culture will be set the main stage of ethnographic festival. This festival will be started at the same time as the ecological one.

Original bands and ensembles from Belarus, Poland, Romania and surely Ukraine will compeete with each other to show their mastery and skills. The festival includes both ethno-rock and folk-rock concerts.

And as usual country fair will be organized next to the scene, where you can taste the favorite dishes of national cuisines: Ukrainian, Moldovan, Romanian, Polish and Belarusian. Craftsmen will demonstrate their skill of manufacturing national clothes and household items that can be purchased as unique souvenirs.

Guests will find a numerous fun competitions and raffles with prizes. Ethno-festival will last 3 days.

Regular "horse taxi" will be running between the two festivals - it's a vehicle, harnessed with horses. It will be a good possibility for urban residents to feel flavor of real Ukrainian villages. The participants of Ukrainian ethno- and eco-festivals will visit each other and demonstrate their performances and shows.
